Life is about taking small steps that, one after the other, open up a path. Some are filled with immense happiness, while others are challenges that trip us up and teach us how to get back up stronger. Each and every one of them represents a unique moment, sometimes almost imperceptible, that marks a before and after in the course of our lives. Bodegas Cepa 21, founded in 2007 and located in Castrillo de Duero (Valladolid), launches the #HITODETUVIDA campaign with the aim of reminding us that, to achieve great success, it is important to stop and celebrate these everyday achievements.

In rural areas, a milestone (in Spanish: hito) was a stone post used to delimit and separate plots of land or simply to mark the right path. This is the origin of its current meaning, which refers to a specific and significant event that marks an important moment in a person’s life. Bodegas Cepa 21 wanted to combine both aspects with which it identifies so closely: the tradition that underpins its history and that has brought it to where it is today, and the festive soul of its wines.

José Moro, President of Bodegas Cepa 21, explains that the #HITODETUVIDA campaign is based on the fact that “what really matters in life is being close to those people who are most important to you, helping them through their difficulties and celebrating their greatest successes with them”. And what better way to do this than to share Hito, “a wine that carries joviality, energy and the desire to grow in its DNA”.

To pay tribute to this “collection of moments”, Cepa 21 offers its customers a special website dedicated to #HITODETUVIDA, where they can celebrate the milestones in their loved ones’ lives and dedicate a toast to them with Hito 2020: every bottle purchased will be accompanied by a glass and a personalised message to surprise the recipient and bring a smile to their face. Cepa 21 also proposes an improvised toast in bars, celebrating those special moments at the bar. Therefore, in the first stage of #HITODETUVIDA, it will tour nine Spanish provinces (Valladolid, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga and Valencia), stopping off at different venues which will act as “Milestone Embassies”. Each of these establishments will host different activities, such as The H Hour, during which only Hito will be toasted, The Hito Tapa, a unique tapa at a special price for discovering the best pairing with Hito, and a raffle to win a Year of Free Hito.

Hito is the embodiment of José Moro’s philosophy of celebrating and sharing. A young wine, with personality, but also versatile and easy to drink, perfect for enjoying at any casual get-together.  It is produced from a selection of Tempranillo grapes (tinto fino) from the lowest parts of the Cepa 21 vineyards, in north and south-east facing chalky-clay soils. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 12 days, followed by malolactic fermentation for 30 days. Ageing is carried out in French oak barrels.

The new vintage is very interesting, the result of a cycle with high rainfall in the spring and a summer with higher than expected temperatures, followed by some rain before the harvest that served to balance the grapes. Clean, bright and cherry red in colour with violet hues, Hito 2020 is very expressive on the nose, where the primary aromas characteristic of Tempranillo – which are the true protagonists – and the presence of red fruits stand out clearly, with well-integrated oak. On the palate, it is a balanced, medium-bodied wine with a smooth passage and a pleasant sensation on the finish.
